I have a close relative who lives in a blue West Coast state. The results of the last election were very hard on her, and she could only take comfort in the polls that show that more intelligent people voted for John Kerry.

This means that your intelligence is validated by losing. After all, you wouldn't want to be identified with the unwashed people who milk cows and raise hogs.

I think that a bunch of people in the blue states think like this. A lot of them came from red states, went to public school, then off to college and became, in their own eyes, successes. They now live in the blue states and have money and refined tastes. Success means getting out of Kansas, Texas, and Lake Wobegon. They became successes by their own hard work and effort, proving that they are smarter than the others.

They believe some things that you can only believe if you go to college for a very long time and listen to professors that have been to school for a long time, and keep reminding you in subtle ways that they are very smart. Or if you were not able to go to college, you hang around very smart people and let it rub off on you. You learn things that are very smart to know. Things like it is not murder to kill unborn babies but it is murder to kill kangaroo rats. That Bush is like Hitler. That Arafat is a freedom fighter. That those who strap bombs on babies are patriots and those who try to stop them from strapping bombs on babies are fascists.

That it is ok for women or men to sleep around and spread diseases. It is very bright for a man to want to marry his male friend, or his dog, or his cat, or the little boy next door. You have to go to college for a long time and be very bright to see the reason in these things.

It also take a great deal of education to be able to understand that the Christians in the red states are very like the Taliban and militant islamists. It doesn't matter that Christian wives go unveiled and vote and drive the kids to school and have college degrees and work at jobs out of the home. There are nuances, you see, that only the very bright and well educated can understand.

These very bright people remind me of a man I knew that sat in our kitchen one time years ago. He was recovering from a drunken binge that had lasted several weeks, and he was feeling remorseful. "I am just like the Apostle Paul," he said. "What I would not, that I do, and what I would, that I do not."

"Yep," my dad said. "Just like the Paul."

But of course. Dad had not been to elitist colleges and was a red state red neck. He was not much of a Christian, if at all, but he knew the difference between a hawk and a handsaw. He also knew a snob when he met one. He also knew a drunk when he met one and knew that the great Apostle was not a drunk.

Take It to the Blue States: "If we govern from the Blue States, it may be possible to bring the labor movement back. What do I mean by 'governing from the Blue States'? Use state law as much as possible to set up the kind of social democracy we would like to see for the country as a whole. "
==========
I told you that liberals are cracking up. This is a wonderful idea and the red states should encourage "social democracy" in the blue states. This would mean that industry and jobs would flee from the blue states to the red states, unless the blue states build a wall to keep people in the paradise that they create. People and business vote with their feet, just as they did in Berlin and the old Soviet Union. They had to build walls to keep people in paradise.

Tax rates will go up in the blue states. Regulation of businesses and private lives will go up, for socialism constantly meddles in peoples' affairs. The population of the blue states will decline, electoral votes will go up in the red states and the blue states will wither on the vine [Remember Newt?].

As an additional benefit, professional welfare recipients will flock into the blue states, increasing their budgets at the same time that industry and jobs are fleeing. Social disorder and rioting will erupt and the national guard will have to be called out to keep order. Where will those guards come from? The red states, of course, because blue staters are much to peaceful to stoop to military occupations. Economic and social collapse will follow and grass will grow in the streets of Boston and New York.

Before they do this, however, New Yorkers should give back the billions that they extorted from Americans in the 9/11 fund. Miserable ingrates. The money could be used to compensate the victims of Oklahoma City and Waco, and the families of faithful GI dead in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Go for it, blue staters. Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.

I wonder what the "social democracies" of Europe are going to do now that the billions of bribes from Saddam have been cut off.

Physician, Heal Thyself?

Chirac, why didn't you call for U.N. sanctions and dialog in the Ivory Coast. You do you think you are in acting unilaterally in Africa without a consensus of the United Nations? Or is it different in the Ivory Coast, where no one is paying bribes from oil money designed to feed the starving citizens as Saddam was to you and your fellow criminals in the U.N. You are a hypocrite and your sanctimony is as bad or worse than any of the Christians in France's history that you despise.

The Senate vs. the U.N.: "'The extent of the corruption is staggering,'' Sen. Norm Coleman told me. He is a freshman Republican from Minnesota completing his second year in Washington, and he was talking about the United Nations and its pious secretary-general, Kofi Annan. Coleman's comments are not the mere musings of an insignificant rookie senator, but the considered judgment of a committee chairman whose careful investigation reached the hearing stage today."
==========
This is finally getting out in the main stream press. If the UN doesn't or cannot get its act together, it ought to be expelled from the New York, and the United States ought to get out. The money that we give to the UN could be used to form a new set of alliances against terrorism, a UN of the willing and able. Nations who refuse to spend money for military to defeat terrorism can pay the price for being wimpy.

How can the UN be an instrument for peace when is supports terrorism, two-bit dictators, thugs, murderers, and thieves? What is its purpose in today's world. Nato and the UN served its purpose, though barely, in the war against communism, but how is it to be useful against terrorism? How can it serve world law, when it is the most lawless entity in the world today, giving cover for lawless and terrorist states.

Rocky Mountain News: Opinion: "My wife is a Democrat. Her family home in Chicago is lined with photos of the Kennedys. As a child, she remembers Saul Alinsky organizing neighborhood groups in her living room at the invitation of her mother and father. She volunteered on the Eugene McCarthy campaign. She worked as a floor runner at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Adlai Stevenson was a household icon."
-----------
Great article from the Rocky Mountain News. As long as Democrats turn their eyes away from the twin evils of abortion and homosexual marriage, they will continue to decline as a party in America. "You can't fight mother nature." Americans are basically decent, even if not puritanical. They will tolerate more latitude in their arts and movies than they will in their everyday lives. You can fool them for a while, but when you teach that killing babies is ok and that marriage is between whoever "loves" each other [meaning sex], sooner or later they will "get it," and throw you out of the house. Their hearts belong to the girl back home, not the hussy they may dance with for an evening.
